  • Raised the age to purchase tobacco products from 18 to 21, making Hawai‘i County one of the first in the nation to do so
  • Added electronic cigarettes to existing smoking prohibitions
  • Funded a Food Basket program to make fresh produce more accessible to SNAP recipients
  • Funded jet skis for Ocean Safety and repairs to a Fire Rescue boat
  • Funded equipment for West Hawai‘i Community Health Center’s new Kealakehe clinic

Improved the places our families get together

  • Brand new Ali‘i Kai Park
  • New playground at Kailua Park
  • New equipment for Kona Imin Center
  • New sports equipment for Kekuaokalani Gym & Maka‘eo Park
  • Lighting improvements at Hale Hālāwai
  • Supported Parks & Recreation sports workshops

Invested in West Hawai‘i’s roadways

  • Opened the Māmalahoa Highway Bypass to Nāpo‘opo‘o
  • Opened the La‘aloa Avenue Extension to Māmalahoa Highway
  • Appropriated funds for the extension of Nani Kailua Drive to Kuakini Highway, extension of Lako Street to Ali‘i Drive, widening Kuakini Highway, improvements to Royal Poinciana Drive, and improvements to Hawai‘i Belt Road in Honalo – a total of $39 million to improve transportation in West Hawai‘i

Worked to address homelessness

  • Opened Hale Kīkaha Micro Units
  • Funded a program to help homeless adults with mental illness with the support they need to move into permanent housing
  • Supported an emergency gap fund to get families into homes
  • Funded the West Hawai‘i Faith-Based Summit to End Family Homelessness

    PLEASE introduce legislation to eliminate vehicle safety checks in Hawaii. This is nothing more than a burden on your constituents. Hawaii and West Virginia are the only states that currently require vehicle safety checks.
